I was a staff writer at the Philadelphia Daily News (the link, astonishingly, takes you to an archive of my work there from the early 1990s) and the Raleigh News & Observer (the link, astonishingly, takes you only to a piece I recently wrote; no archive of my hundreds of stories from throughout the 1990s seems to exist) and a staff reporter at Nashville Public Radio. I was founding and managing editor of the Nashville City Paper (no link because no more), and I now write on staff for Duke Magazine. But I have done by far the largest amount of my work as a freelance. Below please click through to examples of my work from a variety of publications.
